Sanmar delivers The Navtug Flattop “TORSTEN” to Schramm Group, Germany

Sanmar delivers The Navtug Flattop “TORSTEN” to Schramm Group, Germany

M/T TORSTEN is a powerful handy-sized multipurpose anchor-handling and assistance tug with a large flat deck area. Its main scope of service is providing assistance at any offshore and nearshore construction sites, as well as anchor-handling and aiding cable-laying vessels.

Sanmar has been involved in building standard series tugboats for many years, always stating that any custom-built vessel can be successfully constructed as well. This vessel is important in terms of proving that Sanmar can build any custom vessel as fast and capably as it builds standard vessels. M/T Torsten is the first flattop that SANMAR has built, but know-how and experience achieved in standard tugboat construction has been transferred to this custom design new build. Germanischer Lloyd was appointed as the class for this project and perfect cooperation was achieved between both parties. The vessel was completed in a short period of just 10 months. All the outfitting has been carried out in Sanmar’s new shipyard in Tuzla Bay, Istanbul.

Hans Helmut Schramm, CEO of SCHRAMM group, states that he is proud of the new development at his company and during his speech at the christening he pointed out, how enjoyable and successful working with the SANMAR Shipyard is: "From a business partnership, to a friendship. The good working relationship is clearly reflected in the result: The NavConsult-team has developed a great ship and the SANMAR shipyard realized those plans exactly. The NavTug ® FlatTop TORSTEN exceeds our expectations absolutely and it is very impressive, finally to be able to see the tug in its full dimensions.”

M/T TORSTEN was engineered by NavConsult AWSS GmbH & Co. KG from Germany. The planning, consulting and engineering company offers highly specialized and customized consulting services in the maritime sector. The tug was developed in close coordination with the BG-Verkehr (German Seamen's accident prevention and insurance association) and the classification society Germanischer Lloyd.

Due to her low draft, the tugboat can also be used nearshore and offshore for several works like assistance in offshore sites and windfarms, an anchor handler or a cable layer supporter. She meets all national and international flag state formalities and regulations for 24-hour operation, with the cabin sizes and noise in the accommodation (< 60 db) as well as a fully automatic machine operation (AUT24). With a length of 31.5 m and a width of 12 m, she has a bollard pull of more than 40 tonnes. The tug has a large, free wooden covered deck with a powerful deck crane and a double drum towing and anchor handling winch.

In the accommodation area attention has been paid to use high-quality materials for comfort and to allow the crew have good time on board. The machinery and auxiliary machinery area is largely redundant, so that downtime is minimized, eg double hydraulic bow thruster, double hydraulics for crane / winch, 3 auxiliary diesel, etc.

M/T TORSTEN will join the fleet of Hans Schramm & Sohn Schleppschifffahrt which is also a company of the SCHRAMM group. Once in Germany, the tug will be used as escort and support vessel for the cable layer ship NOSTAG 10 in its first long-term use. The shipping company already has a long-term charter contract.
